Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council wished to explore the use of external lighting to highlight three key historic buildings in Dún Laoghaire - The National Maritime Museum, St. Michael’s Church Spire, and the East Pier Lighthouse.
High Res submitted to a tender proposal for the three sites; two went ahead as planned, but we reimagined the East Pier as it was thought that the original proposal would degrade quickly in bad weather conditions. Once appointed High Res worked with the stakeholders of the three sites to finalise the schemes.
East Pier Lighthouse: Simple lighting of the lighthouse in a warm white and use of specialist optics custom fixtures to wash light down the wall of the lighthouse fortifications.
St. Micheal’s Church Spire: Each side was lit with five wash-lights with individual optics to evenly light the full height of the spire. Custom louvers were used to shield the surrounding apartments from glare.
National Maritime Museum: The front facade of the building was lit with automated gobo projectors with custom gobos for animation effects in even washes of colour. The side was lit in wash-lights.
For both the Church Spire and the NMM an intelligent lighting control system was integrated to create movement in the light, with a touch panel so that different colours /themes could be used for different seasons /holidays such as Christmas, and Easter, Ukrainian flag colours in support of Ukraine, etc.
