XXII Olympic Winter Games, Sochi

Peter was part of the Lighting Department team, that was headed up by Lighting Designer Al Gurdon of Incandescent Design, for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the XXII Olympic Winter Games, Sochi, Russia.

Peter worked closely with Al, as his Associate Lighting Designer, for both ceremonies, along with programmers Mike 'Oz' Owen and Ross Williams. This team won an Emmy on Saturday 16th August 2014 at the 66th Television Academy's Creative Arts Emmy Awards at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live, in Los Angeles. The team won for the category for 'Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction for a Variety Special' for Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games Opening Ceremony.

Riverdance the 25th Anniversary

For the 25th Anniversary production, High Res, were commissioned to produce and deliver an innovative and integrated set, lighting, and motion graphics design for the re-launch of this world-renowned show. The High Res team brought a wealth of creative experience wth a team of lighting and video design creatives, enhancing the visual onstage story telling though the use of technology and expert design.

Centenary

‘Centenary’ was a live broadcast at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre on the evening of Easter Monday, 28th March 2016. ‘Centenary’ follows the course of Ireland’s story, out of the rich past of legend and myth, through a cultural and political awakening, and into a renewed sense of who we could be. The heroism of the Easter Rising, the difficulty of building the republic, and the struggles our parents endured so that we could have our freedom, are all acknowledged and remembered.

Today’s generation of artists tell the Centenary story in song, dance and poetry, gathering in figures of the past and present. The show hopes to honour the past, celebrate the present, and remind ourselves why we should be hopeful for the future.

Heartbeat of Home

Peter Canning is the Lighting Designer for 'Heartbeat of Home', a music and dance spectacular featuring the vibrant, dynamic components of traditional Irish, Latin and Afro-Cuban music and dance, created by the Producers and Director of Riverdance.

The World Premier of 'Heartbeat of Home' took place at The Bord Gais Energy Theatre Dublin on Wednesday 2 October 2013 and ran for 21 performances, before embarking on the first leg of its Global Tour, playing to audiences in Beijing, Shanghai, Toronto, Chicago, Detroit and Boston.
